Education, Teacher Essay
How can teachers be advocates for children in and out of the classroom? Teachers play an important role, everyone knows that, but does anyone actually know how much teachers do for us? It seems that teachers are just an authority figure at school, but it is so much more than that. Teachers are in a classroom with about 25 children who thirst for an education. Teachers quench this thirst with the knowledge that they teach in the classroom. Teachers do not just advocate children in the classroom; they continue to do so in the community and the lives of people. Teachers advocate for children in the classroom. ââ¬Å"What students need to succeed in the twenty-first century is an education that is both academically rigorous and relevant to the real worldâ⬠ (Covey). In the classroom, teachers are resource providers, instructional specialist, curriculum specialist, classroom supporters, learning facilitators, mentors and school leaders they are also learners that learn new things each and every day from the children they teach. Children look up to teachers for help, advice, tutoring, and guidance. In the classroom, teachers teach the curriculum they have planned for the day and are expected to help any child that is falling behind or does not understand. Discipline is also a part in the learning process. With all the cheating and various ways of bullying, schools these days have turned into a place you do not want to be at because you feel in danger of getting physically or mentally hurt (Covey). The misbehavior of these cheaters and bullies are preventing their classmates from learning and teachers from instructing the thought out session (Rizzolo). Teachers should always on the first day(s) of student attendance, get off to a good start and execute the rules of the classroom, to avoid this misbehavior from happening. Of course, the classroom rules should tie in with the school policies. When teachers are stating the classroom policies their tone must be stern but not strict, this is to ensure that the students do not take the teacher lightly. The teacher has a role in the community also. Teachersââ¬â¢ role in the community is extremely important, since it is the teachers who are the backbone of the educational system. The whole educational system starts with the school board. The school board comes up with all the school policy that every school must follow. Once these policies are set in stone, administrators interpret them, but the teachers are the ones that personally enforce these school policies and make sure everyone obeys these policies. For teachers to maintain support from the community to keep the school itself running, the community must have a positive observation on the teachers. In order to uphold this positive outlook, teachers must be prepared for the unknown and keep a positive attitude throughout (Nebor). Teachers play a valuable role in todayââ¬â¢s society. The government creates the standards of living and suggests ways of assessment. Our administrators direct the teachers to teach these standards that the government has created for us. After being directed by the administrators, the teacher educates the students on these standards. Therefore, it can be agreed that teachers are responsible for the society, or in other words is the backbone of society. As stated in the previous paragraph, a teacher is a figure that not only educates on an academic level, but also on a social level in order to create character and citizenship. As time passed, the message that teachers attempt to get across has changed but the meaning behind it has not. ââ¬Å"A teacher must help form society at the foundationâ⬠ (Covey). For todayââ¬â¢s children will be tomorrowââ¬â¢s leaders. Teachers have an impact on the lives of others. Certainly, teachers affect the lives of the children they teach, but how? Teachers give their students encouragement by saying ââ¬Å"Come on, you can do itâ⬠¦ youââ¬â¢ve got this! â⬠ or ââ¬Å"Hey, I believe you can achieve more; give it your all! â⬠(Five Ways Good Teachers Change Lives) or other uplifting phrases such as a quote that I live by that says ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t give up just because of what someone said. Use that as motivation to push harder. â⬠ Like encouragement, teachers also support their students by conveying the belief that their students can succeed at anything they put their mind to. The teacher must care for the students; have the childââ¬â¢s best interest in mind. Being a teacher like the teachers who risked their lives for their students in the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, is not necessary but showing them respect and support and encouragement is. Most importantly, challenge the student. Set high standards and push the student to succeed in everything they set out to do. Call out the best from them by rewarding them with some praising words. Just remember do not speak words of devastation, cause humiliation, express indifference, use authority to cause fear, or act out of anger and frustration, and all will be good. Parents expect a lot from teachers. Parents expect their child to learn from his or her teacher what they cannot be taught at home. Parents want their child to gain knowledge of obedience, traditional values, admiration, good manners, and responsibility throughout their whole school experience (Covey). Parents want to be able to schedule a one on one conference with the teacher to discuss their childââ¬â¢s progress or any problems the child is having, and how they are doing in the class or if they are not doing so well how they can improve. Teacherââ¬â¢s ability to inspire children to learn should be acknowledge for enthusiasm or passion cannot be taught, but it can certainly be transferable. Also, the teacherââ¬â¢s ability to understand the childââ¬â¢s perspectives should also be acknowledged, because good teachers will see what their students need to succeed. Children should be free to make their own mistakes and not be afraid of being punished, how else will they learn if you do not give them any room. Yes children should be able to make their own decision; you should also give them space to express themselves freely. One thing that you can make sure of is wherever they are expressing themselves or making their own mistakes they are in a safe environment. Teachers also inspire one another. Teachers all have a common goal, so why not come together and share. A lesson that on teacher teaches may inspire on if not many other teachers to do/plan a similar lesson. No one teacher can know everything there is to know in this world, so they learn from each other. Social media is a great place for teachers to acquire ideas for a lesson. Sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest are outstanding sites for teachers to connect with students and other teachers (Bort). Students benefit from this by having the opportunity to obtain assignments that they have missed and obtain information. Teachers benefit by having a way to communicate with students out of the class and get a hold of some inspiration (Vartan). Being a teacher is not an easy job. Teachers must always demonstrate leadership in multiple ways. A teacher should do everything that can to ensure that their students grow up to become a mature, responsible, and respectable person. Who knows the student may become the teacher and the teacher becomes the student. Works Cited Bort, Anji. Personal Interview. 13 Feb. 2013. Covey, Stephen R.The Leader in Me. You Suck: A Love Story Chapter 31
Chapter Thirty-one Being the Chronicles of Abby Normal: Not Unlike the Toaster, I Control the Darkness So I slept a little that day, and talked to my sweet love-ninja, Foo, a couple of times on the phone, then he came over and we left Jared with some blood for Lord Flood and the Countess when they awoke, and motored to the loft. It took like an hour to clean up all the broken glass and ash and stuff from the night before. We had just finished cleaning and counting the money and making out and whatnot when the alarm went off on the Countess's watch. And I was like, ââ¬Å"Dude, I'm not ready.â⬠ And he was all, ââ¬Å"Dude, you are more ready than anyone I've ever known.â⬠ And I was all, ââ¬Å"OMG, I am so going to sex you to death if we live through this.â⬠ And then he was all bashful and pretended to be doing something technical so we were ready. Then, like an hour after sundown, I heard them coming. I was at the kitchen counter when the security door downstairs opened, and when I turned around they were just, like there. Lord Flood called them the Animals, but now they were kind of the roadkill. And I like touched the snap on my UV jacket, just to make sure it was there. So I was all, ââ¬Å"Hey, vampyre scum.â⬠ And the formerly black and now gray one, who was like their leader, was all up in my grille, like, ââ¬Å"We need the money, where is the money?â⬠ And I was like, ââ¬Å"Step off, undead-tard. There's no money.â⬠ And he was like, ââ¬Å"Don't fuck with us. Flood and the redhead took like six hundred grand from my apartment.â⬠ And I was all, ââ¬Å"Actually, its like five hundred and eighty-three thousand eight hundred and fifty-eight.â⬠ And he was all, ââ¬Å"Give it!â⬠ And all seven of them were like gathering around me ââ¬â even the born-again one the Countess had thrashed ââ¬â like they were going to do the massive gang-suck on me, so I had my finger on my light button all the time, in case I needed to flash-fry the motherfuckers. But I stayed chilly and I was like, ââ¬Å"Are you high?â⬠ And he was all, ââ¬Å"No, I'm not high. No one is high.â⬠ And they all started whining and whatnot, all, ââ¬Å"We can't even take a bong hit. We can't drink a beer. Our systems won't take it. Being sober sucks. We are useless undead stoners.â⬠ So I was all, ââ¬Å"Step back and behold, bi-atches.â⬠ And I'm all taking a bottle of Stoli out of the freezer, and mixing in a glass with some of the blood from the pouches, just like the ones we left for the Countess and Lord Flood, and they're all drooling when they see the blood, so I was thinking, Dont' make me fry you. But then I give the glass to the gray vamp, and he's all, ââ¬Å"Sweet.â⬠ And the others are like, ââ¬Å"Me, me, me.â⬠ So I'm like mixing Bloody Marys all around, and the greasy hippyish one is like, ââ¬Å"Can we dunk pot cookies in this?â⬠ And I'm like, ââ¬Å"Of course, stoner vamp.â⬠ And they're all, ââ¬Å"You are a goddess. And we are not worthy. And oh please, may we have some more?â⬠ Until they started to drop. So like two minutes later there's like this big pile of passed-out vampyres in the kitchen, and I'm all, ââ¬Å"Yo, Foo, I got your shit ready.â⬠ And Foo comes out of the bedroom, all cute, holding his UV floodlight like he's going to save me, then sees that they are all out cold and gives me a big kiss and is like, ââ¬Å"You rock.â⬠ And I'm like, ââ¬Å"You have no idea, my Manga-haired love toy.â⬠ And he was like, ââ¬Å"The sedative in the blood, blah, blah, four hours, blah, blah, nerdspeak, geektalk ââ¬â ââ¬Å" And I'm like, ââ¬Å"Whateva, studmumn. Handle it.â⬠ So it took like two hours for Foo to do all his medical stuff with the Animals, taking some blood and doing various medical nerdism stuff to it, then putting it back in, but finally he was done and I called Jared to tell him that we were on our way to get Lord Flood and the Countess. So I like made the other call to make sure everything was all in order and whatnot, and Foo was all, ââ¬Å"Are you sure this is what you want to do?â⬠ And I was all, ââ¬Å"Foo, theirs is the greatest love of all time. It's the only thing to do.â⬠ And he was all, ââ¬Å"Okay, as long as you're sure. Because we can do them the same as we did the others.â⬠ And I was all, ââ¬Å"No, that won't work. They have to be together. And you don't have to live at home anymore. We'll have a completely sweet love lair.â⬠ So we did it. Blue watched from the alley across the street as the Animals came out the security door, empty-handed, and stumbled into the street. She knew she should have gone herself, but that whole getting-burned-up thing had taught her that perhaps it was better to delegate. That they didn't have her money was bad enough, but that they didn't have her money and heat was coming off of them was disastrous. ââ¬Å"Those dumbfucks can't get anything right,â⬠ she said to herself. ââ¬Å"I'm going to have to kill them all over again.â⬠ ââ¬Å"I don't think so,â⬠ said a voice from behind her. She whipped around, leading with her long fingernails in a swipe that would have taken off half a man's face. Elijah caught her hand. He'd found another tracksuit, this one powder blue. ââ¬Å"It's time to let it go. The genie must go back in the bottle, I'm afraid.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Let me go, I need to go get my money.â⬠ ââ¬Å"No, my dear, you don't want to do that. The residents of that loft have recently developed a very unpleasant fashion sense.â⬠ ââ¬Å"You're fucking with my income, paleface.â⬠ ââ¬Å"You don't need to worry about that anymore.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Meaning what?â⬠ ââ¬Å"It ends here. Come with me, my dear.â⬠ ââ¬Å"You want me to come with you? I don't even know you.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Yes, but we share a special relationship.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Special? You beat my face into the hood of a Mercedes.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Well, yes. Sorry. To the innocent my behavior can sometimes be distasteful.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Yeah? Innocent, I've fucked thousands of guys.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Yes, well, I've killed enough to fill a city.â⬠ Blue shrugged. ââ¬Å"Okay, you win.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Revenge is a dish best served cold anyway, don't you think?â⬠ ââ¬Å"Or not at all,â⬠ said a male voice behind Elijah. Elijah and Blue turned. Three of them stood there in their long coats, looking like sculptures, looking eternal, like they could wait forever. ââ¬Å"Can just anyone sneak up on me now?â⬠ said Blue. ââ¬Å"Time to go, Elijah,â⬠ said the African woman. ââ¬Å"None of you would be here if it weren't for me,â⬠ Elijah said. ââ¬Å"Yes, and we would have been hunted down and killed a long time ago if we hadn't adhered to your rules.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Ah, my rules,â⬠ Elijah said, looking down now. ââ¬Å"How many left to clean?â⬠ Elijah looked across the street to the loft windows, then at Blue. She raised an eyebrow, smiled a little. ââ¬Å"She's the only one left.â⬠ He lied. ââ¬Å"Then finish it.â⬠ ââ¬Å"I'd rather not,â⬠ Elijah said. The Emperor of San Francisco wept for his city. He had done what he could, called the police, alerted the newspapers, even tried to take to battle himself, but by the time he'd gathered the courage to return to the Marina Safeway, it had been finished, and he could do nothing more than speculate to the uniformed police officers how the window had been broken and why the store was empty. They'd tried to track down the night crew, but none of them seemed to be home. And his city was plagued by vampires. Now the Emperor wept and consoled the troops, rubbing Bummer behind the ears and gently patting Lazarus on the ribs as he lay sleeping on the dock. The fog was coming slow off the Bay tonight, not windblown like it was so often here. He heard footsteps before he saw them, then there were five of them. The fiend, the three in the long coats he had seen come in the night before, and a blond woman in a blue party dress. They walked past, and only the fiend turned and paused. The Emperor held Bummer tight, afraid that he would burst into one of his barking fits and all would be lost. ââ¬Å"Old man,â⬠ said Elijah. ââ¬Å"The City is yours again.â⬠ Then he joined the others at the end of the dock. The Emperor could see their motor yacht waiting outside the breakwater ââ¬â it had to be two hundred feet long, far too big to enter the marina. ââ¬Å"Very well, then, shall we go?â⬠ said Elijah. ââ¬Å"Can I get a coat like that?â⬠ asked Blue, nodding toward the tall blond man. The blond man said, ââ¬Å"You'll get one when you learn the secret handshake and get your decoder ring.â⬠ Blue looked at Elijah. ââ¬Å"Is he fuckin' with me?â⬠ ââ¬Å"Yes,â⬠ said Elijah. He offered her his arm. She took it, and stepped down into the longboat. The Emperor watched the vampires disappear into the fog. Rivera had six uniforms in SWAT gear with a battering ram ready to take down the door, so he and Cavuto were more than somewhat surprised when it opened almost as soon as they knocked. A shirtless, sleepy-looking Chinese guy with spiky hair stood in the doorway. ââ¬Å"Yes, can I help you?â⬠ Rivera held up the warrant. ââ¬Å"I have a warrant to search this apartment.â⬠ â⬠ ââ¬ËKay,â⬠ said the Chinese guy. ââ¬Å"Abby, cops are here.â⬠ The skinny broken clown girl appeared at the top of the stairs in a kimono. ââ¬Å"Hey, cops,â⬠ said Abby Normal. ââ¬Å"What are you doing here?â⬠ Rivera said. ââ¬Å"I live here, cop.â⬠ She popped the p. Rivera hated that. ââ¬Å"Actually, it's my apartment,â⬠ said the Chinese guy. ââ¬Å"Do you need to see ID?â⬠ ââ¬Å"Yeah, that would be nice, kid,â⬠ said Cavuto. He whipped the kid around and marched him up the stairs as the kid read the warrant. ââ¬Å"Do not bruise the Foo, cop,â⬠ said the broken clown girl. Rivera turned to the uniforms and shrugged apologetically. ââ¬Å"Sorry, guys, I guess we got this one.â⬠ They shuffled away. ââ¬Å"What are you guys looking for?â⬠ asked the Chinese kid. ââ¬Å"Maybe we could speed this up.â⬠ ââ¬Å"We're looking for Thomas Flood and Jody Stroud. He's the one on the lease for this apartment and the one down the street.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Oh, yeah. I'm subletting,â⬠ said the Chinese kid. ââ¬Å"Steven Wong,â⬠ Cavuto read off the kid's license. Rivera was feeling very, very bad about this. They had found one more body in the Mission with the blood-loss-and-broken-neck MO ââ¬â the guy had been naked, supposedly someone had stolen his powder-blue tracksuit, so they logged it as robbery, but then, a week ago, the killings stopped. That didn't mean it was over. He'd made the mistake of thinking it was over with these two before. Rivera had finally gotten the Christian kid at the Safeway to file charges on the redhead for assault. After a long talk with the other stoners, they'd gotten the Flood kid on the arrest warrant for conspiracy. They'd also implied that somehow Flood and the redhead had gotten their share of the old vampire's money. Maybe they had left town. If they had, well, good, but he still had a slew of unsolved murders. ââ¬Å"You're subletting from Thomas Flood?â⬠ ââ¬Å"I never met him, actually,â⬠ said Steve. ââ¬Å"We arranged it through the rental agent.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Yeah, so step off, cop,â⬠ said the skinny girl. Rivera looked around the apartment. There was no need to tear the place apart. Obviously everything in here was new. Mostly decorated in Pier 1 Imports cheap wicker motif and some punky Urban Outfitter flair, which he guessed was the input of the creepy little girl. The bronze sculptures were out of character, though. A life-sized nude of a young woman, a large snapping turtle, and a life-sized bronze of a couple posed as if in Rodin's The Kiss. ââ¬Å"These must have been expensive,â⬠ Rivera said. ââ¬Å"Not really. I know the artists,â⬠ the Chinese kid said. ââ¬Å"Some biker guys down the street.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Foo's in biotech,â⬠ said the broken clown girl. ââ¬Å"He makes like stupid money, cop.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Yeah, that's swell,â⬠ said Rivera. He'd watched this neighborhood turn from a rust slum of repair shops and the odd ethnic restaurant to a gentrified hive of hipster professionals in remodeled lofts during the dot-com boom, and it had never turned back. The whole neighborhood was full of kids who spent the equivalent of Rivera's annual salary on a car they wouldn't drive a dozen times a year. This kid apparently was just another one. ââ¬Å"So you don't know these people?â⬠ Rivera said, pointing to the warrant. Steven Wong shook his head. ââ¬Å"Sorry, I've never met them. I send my rent directly to the rental agency. You might check with them.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Okay then. Sorry to bother you.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Okay then?â⬠ Cavuto said. ââ¬Å"That's it?â⬠ ââ¬Å"They're not here, Nick. These two don't know where they are.â⬠ ââ¬Å"But, that's not enough.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Yeah? You want to spend some time talking to Allison here, see what you can find out?â⬠ Rivera nodded toward the broken clown girl. Cavuto had tried to keep someone between himself and the skinny girl since they'd come upstairs, but now he looked at her full on and shuddered. ââ¬Å"No, I guess that's it.â⬠ He turned and lumbered down the steps. ââ¬Å"You need to check your girlfriend's ID,â⬠ Rivera said to Steve. ââ¬Å"You may not be old enough for her.â⬠ Then he turned and left as well. ââ¬Å"Chill, Foo,â⬠ Abby said. ââ¬Å"They're gone. They won't be back. Let's go shopping.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Abby, are you sure about this? It seems cruel.â⬠ He patted the life-sized sculpture of the couple embraced in a kiss. ââ¬Å"I heard the Countess say once that it was like being in a dream. They just sort of float, all peaceful and dreamy. The main thing is they're together.â⬠ ââ¬Å"You're sure?â⬠ ââ¬Å"Theirs is the greatest love of all time. It would be wrong for them to be apart, Foo.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Well, I think we should just change them back. Now that we know the process works.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Someday.â⬠ ââ¬Å"Now.â⬠ ââ¬Å"The Countess doesn't want that.â⬠ ââ¬Å"It's wrong.â⬠ ââ¬Å"How can it be wrong? It's my idea, and I am their dedicated minion and whatnot. I control the dark.â⬠ She ran and jumped into his arms. ââ¬Å"I guess you do,â⬠ he said. ââ¬Å"Okay, let's go shopping for stuff for our most fly apartment.â⬠ William arrived back at the loft just after dark, feeling very much rested and well fed from his hospital stay, but craving a sip or two of the good stuff, and terribly worried about Chet. He let himself into the stairway with his key, but when he rang the bell, no one answered, so he sat down to wait for the redhead and that guy to bring his bottle. He hadn't been there ten minutes before he heard the meowing at the door, and his heart leapt as he opened the outer door to find Chet, his red sweater still intact, purring outside. ââ¬Å"Come on, boy. I missed you, buddy.â⬠ William scooped up his kitty and carried him into the stairwell. As soon as the door closed, Chet, the huge shaved vampire cat, was upon him.

We do not want to be an evolutionary biologist or an adventurous underwater photographer. The majority of my extraordinary friends became an ordinary engineer in the walls of the crowd pretending to be another brick. There must be a potential genius among us; we just encourage us to find our own call. When I refused the proj ect, I was very lost. My dream of becoming an engineer got even worse, everyone Choosing a career for many people is not easy. I am enthusiastic working from animals to small animals to large animals. Handling animals is what I dream of. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of studies on animals that make my career search more complicated. To understand how the religions have influenced the cultures of these countries it is necessary to look at their characteristics, similarities and their differences. Buddhism is believed to have originated from North India in the fifth century. Their main texts are the three pitakas. The Buddhists believe in a supreme being referred to as the Buddha. They also believe that the suffering experienced by the people is always as a result of the desire held by the people. Hinduism on the other hand is believed to have originated from the Indus valley. Their main texts are collectively referred to as the Veda. Hindus believe in many gods and goddesses. Hinduism is therefore a polytheistic religion. The Hindus believe in re-birth after death which is facilitated by one dying in a holy place. All Hindis are also expected to strictly follow and observe the caste system and to go for cleansing annually (Sudheer, 2014). Sikhism started in the sixteenth century in India. This religion is believed to have originated from Guru Nanak. The main text that is used by the Sikhs is the Guru Granth Sahib. As opposed to the Hindus, Sikhs always believe in a supreme God who is believed to be an immortal creator. The believers and the followers of the Sikhism religion believe that the good life always achieves unity with God. Sikhs Like the Hindus believe in reincarnation which is also the re-birth after death. Jainism which is another main religion in India is seen as a group of Hindis that broke away from Hinduism in the sixteenth century. The Jains view the earth as a place full of misery. This is the sole reason as to why most Jains are either nuns or monks as a way of seeking their personal liberation (Sudheer, 2014). The four religions share many common similarities and the characteristics. One of the similar characteristic is

In United States, the pioneer photographers like Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Weston had spent their lives in advocating for photography to be used as fine art. This saw a culminating moment for photography in 1910 for both pictorialism and photography after Albright Gallery from Buffalo purchased 15 photographs. Antigone, Oedipus and Othello - Research Paper Example Thesis Statement This paper intends to present an in-depth study of the plays that have evolved from different ages in the literature through the manifestation of a comparative study. Along with that the comparative analysis of the themes present in the plays, culminates a perspective quintessential for the understanding of the role of these plays in comprehending the societies from which they have evolved. Comparison To compare the Greek plays Antigone and Oedipus with that of Othello by William Shakespeare, the first thing that will come under the scanner for choosing the parameter of comparison is the lapse of time running between the composition of Antigone, Oedipus and Othello. Yet, there are certain pre-cognitive planes on which the thread of comparison can be preceded. All the three plays are great tragedies of literature but Antigone is a tragedy of a princess and Oedipus and Othello speaks the tragic saga of two kings from two different parts of the world facing their predic ament at two different times, yet are united by their grief and suffering evolved out of misunderstanding, betrayal and infidelity with all-pervasive elements of destiny extending and exercising its spell on the characters of the play. Antigone was probably composed by Sophocles before or in the year of 442 B.C. Chronologically, Antigone stands in the third position among the three Theban Plays but it is assumed to be written first. The play focuses on the expansion of the Theban legend that is composed predated to it and picks up the note where Aeschylusââ¬â¢ ââ¬ËSeven Against Thebesââ¬â¢ ends. On the other hand, Oedipus is also composed by Sophocles and it is an Athenian tragedy that was first performed around 429 B.C. This play is the second in the chronological order among the three Theban plays but in the internal chronology, it comes first which is followed by Oedipus of Colonus and lastly by Antigone. Over the ages, Oedipus as a play has become the mark of the excellence which Greek culture and art possessed at that time and undoubtedly is one of the remarkable tragedies of all times (Knox, B. ââ¬Å"The Date of theà  Oedipus Tyrannusà  of Sophoclesâ⬠). Othello was composed by all-time master playwright of English literature, William Shakespeare and is assumed to be composed around 1603. Believed to be based on the Italian short story titled ââ¬Å"Un Capitano Moroâ⬠, which in English means ââ¬Å"A Moorish Captainâ⬠, the piece was composed by Cinthio who was a follower of Boccaccio. It is presumed to be first published in the year 1565. Othello as a tragedy has surpassed all the limits of the pain that love can bring and stands out as a shrine of aesthetic creativity, poetic verses and passionate presentation. All the three plays, Antigone, Oedipus and Othello are tragedies and all the three plays are set against a non-English background. Therefore, a comparative analysis of these plays would launch the readers into a platform that would yield a lot of information and perspective of Greek as well as Venetian society. At the same time, in all the three plays the role of women in society and their conditions from society to society at different times play important expression which would again launch into a macrocosmic interpretation of the social values pertaining during the different ages when the plays were composed.

Report on the Religious Life of Planet Earth Assignment
Report on the Religious Life of Planet Earth - Assignment Example This is despite the fact that people have different perspectives about the issue of religion. For establishing whether the individuals in the planet are religious and the contents of this religion, a criterion will has to be used for pointing out the various factors, which come into play about religion. The first criterion in this case is in relation to the different branches of religion. So what are the various branches of religion? In this case, there are two extremely significant branches. These are Christians and Muslims. In essence, these are the two significant religions in the world. There are other minor ones like Buddhism and Sikhism just but to mention a few (Tomoko, 2007). The other criteria, which can be established, are in relation to how the religions look like. This is also in relation to the elements, which are associated with these various diverse religions. For starters, in the case of the Christians, the most crucial element is The Bible. In the case of the Muslims , the Quran is considered the most salient element. These are Holy Books. From these books, the teachings of religion can be deduced (Harvey, 2000). These are the writings, which hold the most relevant information, which is associated with the religion. ... In this case, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is commemorated. This is something, which takes place on an annual basis. In the case of Muslims, there is the Idd festival, which is also a significant event on their calendar, which signifies the end of fasting (Tomoko, 2007). In all the religions which are known to be in existence, there is the perception that there is always a place where the good people in the world will go. In almost all cases, this place is termed as heaven. There are many good things, which are associated with this place. At the same time, it is the place where people are encouraged to aim at going in the event of their demise from the earth (Harvey, 2000). Similarly, there is also a place where the individuals who lived wretched lives will go. This place in almost all the religions is termed as hell and is the location the devil is believed to be living. The one intriguing and rather captivating thing is the belief system, which the people of these rel igions have come up with. This is especially in relation to the aforementioned locations. The believers believe that the places exist despite the fact that it has not been proven whether they exist or not (Harvey, 2000). The one thing, which this highlights, is that there is an undoubted amount of faith in the case of the individuals of the religions, which are existent in the earth. There are some functions, which are associated with religion. The first one in this case is that religion provides a means of interaction between the human beings and God. It is through religious activities that human beings can indeed get to communicate with God. Religion also serves to provide people with mental peace. Religion serves to console the human person despite

Secular Organizations and Sacred Places Paper Essay
Secular Organizations and Sacred Places Paper - Essay Example This mythical practice continued from generation to generation as part of custom and it prevails in this 21st century also. The common elements such as stones, water, fire, writings, statues and metals, trees, and caves have been considered as mythical elements in sacred places. They are discussed below in detail. Stones in various kinds and sizes have been attributed sacredness by religious ideologies. Evidences of megalithism can be seen across the globe and it is credited to most ancient cultures. Some religions build specific configurations using special arrangements of stones; and it clearly reflects the cultural features of the respective religions. Water is another important sacred element which has a devotional image in majority of religions. According to Christian, Islam, and Jewish beliefs water is a significant element in religious practices. For instance, according to their notions, water symbolizes internal purification and anointment. According to Bible, the spirit of G od separated water from water by a firmament and was found ââ¬Ëhovering over the watersââ¬â¢ (Genesis 1: 1-6). Other world religions including Hinduism also heed higher importance to water in their religious ceremonies. According to Hindu concept, all inhabitants of the earth originated from the ââ¬Ëprimordial seaââ¬â¢.

Managing Schools Corporate Image - a Case Study in University Essay
Managing Schools Corporate Image - a Case Study in University - Essay Example Just as any other corporations present in the community, pedagogical institutions are not exempted from this common situation in the community. It is necessary for educational institutions to project a good image and identity towards the community since they are considered responsible in shaping the future of every nation. As simple as these two ideas may seem yet in reality, this is one of the most difficult and the most complex challenges that a business may face that concerns management these days. In order to address this challenge, every organization must understand and recognize the importance of corporate image and identity. (http://www.lippincottmercer.com/insights/a_roberts03.shtml, para 4) In order to make sure that the company is developing the reputation it seeks from the community, the need for perfectly aligning these two elements - corporate image and corporate identity, is held necessary furthermore considered to be the only way of attaining such expectations. (http://www.lippincottmercer.com/insights/a_roberts03.shtml, para 2 & 5) "Identity goes to the heart of how a company creates value in the marketplace and in the financial markets. In a nutshell, that is the very essence of image management". This key element in building the reputation of the organization includes the organization's purpose, its vision, its strategy and its business objectives. " (http://www.lippincottmercer.com/insights/a_roberts03.shtml, para 2, 5 & 6) As a whole, corporate identity consists of all its products and services, as well as how its people behave that is projected through the shared values of the organization and its employees. Corporate identity digs deeper as to the process and the ways in which the company creates its own value in the community where it markets its products and services. (http://www.lippincottmercer.com/insights/a_roberts03.shtml, para 2, 5 & 6) On the other hand, corporate image has to do something with the people who had availed of the corporation's products and services, their impressions and associations towards the corporation as perceived through their experiences with the company. Generally, these impressions and association that the consumers have developed within themselves can however be controlled by the corporation. Everything that the consumers have to go through is capable of being controlled by the corporation to a greater or lesser degree. This "may include the tone and manner of its employees, its pricing structure, the quality of its customer service, the publicity it receives from the media, its social responsiveness and its activities in the community". (http://www.lippincottmercer.com/insights/a_roberts03.shtml, para 7) It is and has been conceptualized largely in terms of the visual aspect it projects to the people. In business management studies, they also suggest that image is determined mostly by the organization and is presented to the employees in both verbal and visual form. (qtd in Moffit & Williams, 1997) Managing effectively the corporate image and identity is considered as the only way of building the desired reputation of the corporation towards its target consumers. (http://www.lippincottmercer.com/insights/a_roberts03.shtml, para 7) Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) - A Case Study Pedagogical institutions, unlike any other corporations, have a more challenging management strategy
The Crucible within the play Essay Example for Free
The Crucible within the play Essay What is The Crucible within the play, and how does it bring about change or reveal the individuals true character? A crucible is a cup-shaped piece of laboratory equipment used to raise metals to very high temperatures, and extract impurities. Therefore, I think that the court is the crucible within the play. The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller based on the events which actually happened in 1692, which led to the Salem witch trials, a series of hearings before the court, which prosecuted over 150, on the grounds that they were practicing witchcraft. These events occurred in Massachusetts, between February 1692 and May 1693. He likened the events in his play to the situation with the House Un-American Activities Committee. Miller wrote the play to warn people to plead for freedom. Later, Miller himself was called upon to appear before the McCarthy Committee and was questioned about his activities with the American communist party. Arthur Miller was an American playwright, who lived from October 1915 till February 2005. He was an important figure in American literature for over 60 years, and wrote many plays, including very famous plays, such as The Crucible, A View from the Bridge, All My Sons, and Death of a Salesman, which are still studied and performed all over the world. He was born to Jewish-American parents in Manhattan, in New York. His father owned a womans clothes manufacturing business, which failed in the Wall Street Crash of 1929. After the business failed, his family moved to Brooklyn. Because of the effects of the Wall Street Crash on his family, Miller had little money for college after graduating in Abraham Lincoln High School. In order to gain a place at the University of Michigan, Miller had to work in a number of low status jobs to pay for his tuition. In order to fully understand The Crucible, we must first understand some of the plays background and history. The term Witch-hunt was first used to describe the searching out and persecution of a religious minority, or a political group with ideas different to the majority of the population. After World War Two, US relations with the Soviet Union deteriorated, and there followed a period known as the cold war. A large amount of people feared Russia, and believed that they intended to take over the world. This is what started the fear of Communism in the US. We must also understand what the Puritan societies in Salem were like. Salem was originally founded by Pilgrim Fathers, who had left their own countries in order to practice their religion in peace. The Puritans had very strict moral codes, and this is probably what caused the girls to rebel, and experiment in the forest.

A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway Essay Example for Free
A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway Essay The key to a good book is a great plot. The plot determines all the events in the story, from the first word, down to the last period. Ernest Hemingway is considered as a giant in the literary world. His book, A Farewell to Arms is a testament to his literary genius. A Farewell to Arms seems at first to be a love story. It is, but most importantly, the novel is a story about war, and the tragedy it brings. In his work, Freylagââ¬â¢s pyramid of narrative structure is clearly shown. Exposition The novel opens with a description of the place where the main character, Frederic Henry or simply called ââ¬Å"Tenenteâ⬠ stayed. He is the narrator of the story. Hemingway illustrates late summer giving details like falling leaves turning into dust. Troops marching and flashes of fighting in the mountains create an atmosphere of doom to the reader. Hemingway prepares the setting by making a contrast of peace in nature and the disturbance brought about by the soldiers; a smaller picture of the bigger chaos that nations are facing in war. The characters are also established early in the novel. The narrator is an American volunteer ambulance driver. In the early part of the novel, he is introduced by a friend to Catherine Barkley, who is the focal point of Henryââ¬â¢s love in the story. Both are the main characters of the story. Others include, Rinaldi, the friend who introduced Henry and Catherine. A typical Italian male. The priest, Helen Ferguson, and other ambulance drivers also make up the characters that made World War I alive for the reader. Rising Action The novel is divided into five books. In the first book, Henry and Catherine are introduced and their relationship begins. The next few books follow the injury of Henry, and his growing relationship with Catherine while convalescing in a hospital in Milan, far from the action. Catherine becomes pregnant and Henry was forced to go back to the front, leaving her. Upon coming back, a retreat was ordered, were all officers were killed but Henry was able to escape. He was marked as a deserter and having found Catherine, travelled by boat to Switzerland. Here, Henry and Catherine lived a quiet life until she goes into labor. All these events, consist of the bulk of the novel. Hemingway had set many problems for Henry and Catherine. He wanted to show that Henry as a hero, was always stoic in adversities. Catherineââ¬â¢s burden started upon being pregnant but was not too much dwelled upon by Hemingway until the final book of the novel. Several conflicts were shown by Hemingway. The most apparent was Henryââ¬â¢s struggle with the tragedies of war. Henryââ¬â¢s friend was shot to death by Italians upon retreat; the killing spree of officers; Henryââ¬â¢s life as a deserter; the difficult escape to Switzerland by a rowboat . All these were the trials of Henry during the war, and what is ironic is that, he wasnââ¬â¢t in danger of the enemy, but of his comrades, of the soldiers that he had been fighting at the same side. These conflicts build up, highlighting the biggest conflict, the Climax. Climax Upon Henry and Catherineââ¬â¢s successful escape to Switzerland, Catherine goes into labor. The labor is long and painful for Catherine. After a Cesarean operation, the baby is stillborn; and Catherine haemorrages and dies. The Climax is the culmination of events which create the peak of the conflict. The above-mentioned scene is considered as the climax because, after all the efforts of Henry and Catherine went through to be together, all has been wasted in Catherineââ¬â¢s death. Falling Action After Catherine died, Henry was left alone with the doctor. He feels helpless and doesnââ¬â¢t want any gestures of comfort. The offers of the doctor to bring him to his hotel fell on deaf ears. After the peak of the climax, events that follow constitute the falling action. In his novel, Hemingway skillfully illustrates the unbearable grief and emptiness left upon the passing away of a loved one. The downward slide of Freylagââ¬â¢s pyramid accurately shows the feeling of the main character upon losing his love. Denoument The conclusion as its name suggests brings an end to the story. In A Farewell to Arms, after Henry went out and left the hospital, he walked back to the hotel in the rain. It is a sad ending that leaves a heavy heart to the reader. The novel is concluded by the image of Henry walking in rain. Rain usually represents gloom and sadness. In his conclusion, Hemingway shows the main character, the hero, no longer stoic but very much in pain. Works Cited Hemingway, Henry. A Farewell to Arms. New York: Charles Scribnerââ¬â¢s Sons, 1957. Culture of the Penan Tribe
Culture of the Penan Tribe The review that I would like to made among the 5 tribes that acted by the Bruce Parry is the Penan tribe. First of all, I would like to introduce briefly about the character of Bruce Parry. Bruce Parry is an activist that venture into the most remote area of Sarawak state in Malaysian Borneo. He believes that the only ways to knows more about the culture anthropology and knowledge for a tribe is to have a participant observation in his fieldwork. Participant observations mean that living within a given culture for an extended period of time, and take part in its cultural daily life in all its richness and diversity. The Penan is a nomadic aborigine that roved on the land of Sarawak Borneo and some other parts on Brunei Bandar Seri Begawan. Nowadays, the number of Penan had officially stated approximate to 10,000 people and around 350-500 of them are nomadic that scattered over Ulu Baram, Limbang, Tutoh and Lawas of Sarawak. (Figures retrieved from: http://www.survival-international.org) The present Penans are consisted with settled, semi-nomadic and total nomadic communities that fully depend on the forest products. In Penan society, the natives are highly developed in an egalitarian society and little gender division. It means that the social stratification among the man and women are almost equal. For instance, the man and women shared most of the chores among them. Such as, gathering the forest product and extracted sago from the sago palms, but they are still some part of chores that dominated by male, for example, hunting in the forest. Penan is a group of native that practiced the ritual of Molong which means that never take more than necessary. The majority of the Penan natives are work as nomadic hunter-gatherers. The nomadic Penan usually moves in group that consisted approximately 40 people included children and old people. They do not stayed for a long time in a particular place. The period of time that they stay is depend on the resources at the place that they stayed and when the resources became fewer, they will choose other suitable places and moved again. The nomadic Penan native that lived in the forest was very much depending on their traditional diet-Sago that starch from the Sago palm. Once, the Sago palms are matured and fully grown, the sago palm trees will be cut down. The leader of the collecting sago palm will make sure an amount of sago starched is enough for each family and kept adequately for their supply. After that no more sago palm will be chop down until they are ran out of food. Besides that, the Penan native also preys on wild animals like wild boars, mouse deer and monkeys. The hunters hunt by using a blowpipe, made with the Belian wood and carved out with a bone drill. The poison darts that they used are made from the sago palms tree bark and on its tip; the Penan dipped it with kind of powerful poisonous latex that extracted from a tree from the forest. However, the Penan natives also cultivate the planting of paddy and domestic animal breeding for their own foods not for sales. Furthermore, I would like to discuss briefly about the Penan culture. Culture can be defined as a learned behavior in any particular society includes those ideas, techniques and habits which are passed on by one generation to another in a sense, a social heritage and which are virtually a set of solutions to problems that, in the course of time, others have met and solved before. (Tony Bilton, Kevin Bonnett, Philp Jones, Michelle Stanworth, Ken Sheard, and Andrew Webster, 1987, page 11) The nomadic Penan move in groups and they have their own clan territories, the groups are consisted of a family of five or six members and some family even consisted of 30 people. The nomadic Penan will leave their old selap (huts) and move to another domain of forest when their sago supplies are exhausted. The majority of the roofs are tarpaulins and there are seldom roof made by giant palm leaves. In the aspect of material cultures, only Penan elders dress in traditional dress, which called chawats means that the loin cloths, and wearing large holes in their earlobes. Nowadays, the Penan natives are making the tattoos by themselves which is almost like prison tattoos. Only few Penan now go in barefoot, most of them are wearing cheap plastic boots with rounded studs to protect their foots. In addition, I would like to discuss about the Penan traditional weapons that are used for hunting. For example the Penans blowpipes which is used for hunting wild animals. The another name for blowpipe is called keleput, are approximately 6 feet long and made from one solid piece of iron wood. Secondly, the process of making the Penan poison darts is cutting off the bark of the tajem tree to extract milky latex that is warmed over a fire to produce the poison. The poison darts can cause lethal arrhythmias to the animals. Blowpipe darts are made from palm fronds with light weight. Darts with metal tips which cut from tin cans are used for bigger size wild animals like deer and bearded pig. The last weapon used by Penan hunters is knives. The Penan hunters are carrying two knives. The first knife is called a poeh, is large and machete-like. The second knife is called darhad which is much smaller than peoh and is used for cutting meat, whittling blowpipe darts and fine work. Both knive s are carried close together with the Penan hunters. Besides that, in the aspect of religion believe for Penan native, the Penan have been converting their animism belief to Christianity since in the 1930s. According to the functionalist Emile Durkheim, religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say, things set apart and forbidden beliefs and practice which unite into one single moral community called a Church, all those who adhere to them. (Robert Van Krieken, Daphne Habibis, Philip Smith, Brett Hutchins, Michael Haralambos, Martin Holborn, 2006, page 390) However, some of the Penan native still having a strong believe in myths and spirits. The Penan leaders still practice the ritual of blood pacts with neighboring tribe when doing the political agreement. The ritual of blood pacts was believed that anyone who breach of this pact will cause to vomiting of blood and a violent death. Moreover, in the aspect of economic for Penan native, most of the Penan are work as a hunter gatherer in forest and selling the main resource of the forest which is sago. The economy can be defined as a system of production, distribution, and consumption of resources, including the cultural belief that supports economic processes. During the colonial times, the British government will arrange trading missions called tamu close to the forests of the Penan to offered forest products like damar (now used in eco-paints), rattan mats and baskets, rhino horn, gaharu wood (or eagle-wood), wild rubber, monkey gallstones (for Chinese medicine), bills of hornbills, and deer antlers. These items were traded for manufacturing goods like knives, cooking pots and shotguns. None of these forest products are now abundant, but many Penans will sell surplus meat to logging camps. The Penan native also sold the high quality gaharu from gaharu tree but that can take years to accumulate. Gaharu is used a s incense, for medicinal and religious purposes, and as a perfume in the Middle East countries. For the division of labor for Penan, the man will always go for hunting and the woman will generally gather the sago from the sago palm tree and do the house chores. The pattern of economic subsistence for Penan native is foraging and horticulture. For instance, they are foraging in groups for wild plants and hunting for wild animals like wild boar and mouse deer. However, some Penan hunter still practicing the pedestrian foraging which means that the hunters are diversified hunting and gathering on foot. For the horticulture, they also rear some chickens, pigs, and monkey outside their house. The Penan native also having symbolic interactionism when they are hunting inside the forest. According to the principal ontological claim of symbolic interactionist is that reality is not immutable or fixed but is constantly being recreated or achieved through the meaningful interaction of individuals. (Tony Bilton, Kevin Bonnett, Philp Jones, Michelle Stanworth, Ken Sheard, and Andrew Webster, 1987, page 521) Symbolic interactionism means that the interaction among people, how people use symbols in communication and interaction to establish meaning, develop their view of the world, and communicate with one another. The Penan natives have their own forest sign language. For example, a bent twig stuck in the trail may simply delivering the direction of the hunter is going. The complex arrangements of cut twigs, sticks and folded leaves means that delivering the message to the Penan native about anything from the state of the hunting locally to the others hunter whether they are in go od mood or not. Furthermore, the Penan native also facing social changes in the Penan society. In general terms social change refers to the changes in the nature, social institution, social behavior or social relations of a society, or other social structures. According to Barbara Marliene S. Mary Ann A. Schwartz (2006) social change was defined as the time when external events happened, such as war and conquest and culture contact and diffusion, or environmental factors or internal events, such as innovations, invention and population shifts. For instance, in Penan society, the Penan native was influenced by the cultural diffusion from western, such as wearing t-shirt and jeans, cooking pot and cups made from western and lastly some of the hunter are using shotgun for hunting instead of using the blowpipes. The collective action also occur among the Penan natives toward the government when the logging company keep on cutting of the tree in Penan forest without paying any compensate and development to the Penan area. For example, many blockades were set up in attempt to stop logging operations on their land. Unfortunately, the efforts were hard to carry on and the situation turns bad with vast scale of clashes between the indigenous community and the state supported logging company. The Penan native also facing social changes because of the the geography and climate. It is because, the Penan natives is dealing with the survival problems inside the forest. Their food becomes hard to attain and the inhabited environment was contaminated because of the serious logging happened in Penan forest. These kinds of situation makes their natives life in the jungle becomes tough and unease. So, the member in the group is keep decreasing due to migration. Migration refers to the movement of people into or out of a geographical area (Barbara S Mary A, 2006). So, in future, many youngsters who grew up in the nomadic group will choose to move out from the community and headed to the life style in the city. It is because the young people rather choose a spouse from the city than they own people that stayed in the group. In the aspect of development in Penan society, the Penan native did not want any development from the government to them and they just want their own traditional life remains. According to Hunt, E. F. Colander, human being appears to be basically conservative and the human mind and personality are so constituted that once people beliefs, attitudes, and patterns of behavior, they have difficulty in changing them. (Hunt, E. F. Colander, D.C. 2005, page 90) The statement above have shown that why the Penan natives reject the development from government. However, the logging company which could bring development and economic rises to the country have also cause a lot of negative impact to the Penan natives. For instance, the poorly planned logging trails had caused the issues of earth erosion, landslides and the silting of watercourses happened. The situation had affected the functional relation among the Penan and the forest. The big trees which were removed had cause the Penan native hard to gather and hunting for their foods. Lastly half of the habitat of Penan native was being demolished. In the aspect of family in Penan society, the Penan natives are having closure group of marriage, it means that the Penan native will only married each other which is in their own tribe. According to Murdock, family is a social group characterized by common residence, economic co-operation and reproduction. It includes adults of both sexes, at least two of whom maintain a socially approved sexual relationship, and one or more children, own or adopted, of the sexually cohabiting adults. (James Fulcher, John Scott, 2007, page 447) Most of the family in Penan society is nuclear family and extended family. Nuclear family refers to a domestic unit composed of a man and woman in a stable marital relationship, with their dependent children, and the extended families refer to where more than one generation of husbands and wives cohabit with their offspring. (Tony Bilton, Kevin Bonnett, Philp Jones, Michelle Stanworth, Ken Sheard, and Andrew Webster, 1987, page 253) Most of the family member in Penan was built in extended family where the Penan natives live and work together inside their huts. In the aspect of gender in Penan society, gender can be defined as a term that has psychological or cultural rather than biological connotations. If the proper terms for sex are male and female, the corresponding terms for gender are masculine and feminine; these latter might be quite independent of biological sex. (Robert Van Krieken, Daphne Habibis, Philip Smith, Brett Hutchins, Michael Haralambos, Martin Holborn, 2006, page 304) The Penan natives are having their gender identity through the gender socialization. According to Ann Oakley, gender socialization is how socialization in modern industrial societies shapes the identity and behavior of girl and boys from an early age. (Robert Van Krieken, Daphne Habibis, Philip Smith, Brett Hutchins, Michael Haralambos, Martin Holborn, 2006, page 316) For instance, the Penans male when they are born they have to be a hunter-gatherer and do some rough work or learning the skill of doing rattans. The female who are born will have to do the h ouse chores with their mother and do the fine work like collecting sago or fruits. As a conclusion, the social changes have caused a lot of conflict among the Penan tribe and the government. Individual, groups, communities are reluctant to change and facing big struggle to adjust from the life style and conditions that they had used with, so many aspects in life have to be considered. At the same time the society have to differ themselves to maintain existing conditions. The Penan resists change because of their romanticized notion of traditional values and the good old days. (Barbara S, Mary A, 2006) For example, the Penan people valued their forest habitat and their traditional rituals very much and fear of losing each of them caused them hesitated to receive changes. So, the phenomenon of the Penan resistance is natural and it is common if they persisted in their objection. References: James Fulcher, John Scott. 2007. Sociology: Third Edition. Northeast Skiing Can't Keep Up With the West Skiers are very loyal athletes. They grow up learning on certain mountains and usually spend most of their lives skiing at those same ones. They remember every bump and turn on the way down. They know which lift to take because it is the fastest and has the shortest line. It takes a lot for a skier to stray from their normal habitat and adventure to slopes unknown. Actually, it takes two seasons of horrible skiing conditions, which is what the Northeast ski industry has recently suffered. Two long years of rain, ice, sleet, and bitter temperatures. The biggest and best mountains in the Northeast have had their finest trails closed almost all of the 2003-04 season. The less open trails, the more crowded the ones that are open are. The less lifts that are open, the more crowded the open ones are. The more crowded the mountain is, the more angry skiers are. So what do these angry skiers do? They do the unthinkable and look elsewhere. They look west. ââ¬Å"The skiing out West is much better,â⬠ said Doug Sabanosh, managing editor of SKI Magazine. ââ¬Å"The East is cold, cloudy, and gray while out West we have 300 days of sun.â⬠ Sabanosh grew up skiing in the Northeast, but he has been living in Colorado for the past 15 years. He says that the mountains out there are bigger, which eliminates the problem of crowdedness on the mountain. Trails are wide open, lift lines are short, and the weather is unbelievable. More people are following Sabanoshââ¬â¢s lead and heading out West to look for better skiing. The Northeast is slumping. The past two years have been slow. Resorts here in the East have been doing everything they can to keep their numbers up and stay competitive with the West. Recently, SKI Magazine came out with its top ten ski areas in North America. The list is voted on by the magazineââ¬â¢s readers. It is based on things such as region, snow, grooming, terrain, challenge, value, lifts, weather, service, and off-hill activities. Not one resort from the Northeast was in that top ten. Six resorts from Colorado made the poll including Vail and Steamboat. Mountains from Utah and Idaho filled in the rest of the list as well as Whistler Mountain in British Columbia. The West dominates this poll. Not even Killington in Vermont, which is one of the biggest mountains in the country, was in the top ten.
A Critical Review of Putwain, D. W. (2011) Essay -- Education
Putwain (2011) conducted a study that focused on the examination stress experienced by secondary students preparing for their General Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations. This research aimed at understanding the subjectivity of examination stress in students preparing for their GCSE examination and was specifically interested in four key factors identified by Denscombe (2000) and Putwain (2009), namely: aspirations, importance of GCSEs, self-worth and pressures from others. In addition, it also explored the gendered nature of examination stress mentioned by Jackson (2006). The study reveals that consideration of examination as stressful was idiosyncratic among the students. Eight distinct elements of examination stress were identified: the anticipation of failure, valuing academic achievement, poor competence beliefs, a personal predisposition to view events as threatening, workload or the lack of control over it, unfavoured assessment formats, thorough effort and prepara tion for forthcoming examinations, and whether ability was viewed as fixed or incremental. Gendered aspects of examination stress were also highlighted in how examinations were talked about and in subject specific competency beliefs. To the extent that this study is exploratory, findings of this research provide insights into the importance of understanding the subjective nature of examination stress experienced by GCSE candidates. However, several limitations must be considered in interpreting the study findings. The article makes a case for studying this phenomena drawing from a number of convincing sources that include journal articles as well as academic books. But only two of these [Denscombe (2000) and Putwain (2009)] are highlighted as direc... ...son between one male and one female student. These two were interviewed approximately two months apart (female student: beginning of spring term, male student: mid point of autumn term). The time gap might pose an issue with the reliability of such inference as well (Denzin and Lincoln, as in Cohen, Manion and Morrison, 2007, p. 148) In summary, it has to be admitted that the current research is far from being conclusive. Future studies should be undertaken utilizing better measures and a well explained sampling procedure to improve our understanding about the examination stress faced by the GCSE student. Despite some deficiencies in the methodology, to the extent this article is exploratory, i.e. trying to investigate an emerging issue, the study has provided some insights to account for the examination stress experienced by students preparing for their GCSEs.

The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald :: Papers
The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby describes "The unending quest after the romantic dream, which is forever betrayed in fact" (Robert Omstein) Is it inevitable that dreams fail in this novel? The wild profligacy of Gatsby's parties, the shallowness and aimlessness of the guests and the hint of Gatsby's participation in theft and crime all identify the period and the American setting. But as a piece of social commentary "The Great Gatsby" also portrays the breakdown of the American dream, from the viewpoint that American political ideals conflict with the actual society since American democracy is based on the equality between people, the truth is that social discrimination still existed and the divisions among the classes could not be overcome. This made the dream of many of which is to become part of the higher social class, represented by East Egg, impossible to attain. In the novel, Myrtle is one of the characters whose desires spring from social ambitions. She wanted to fit into the higher social values and to do so she had an affair with Tom and imitates his way of living, but it results in her becoming as vulgar and corrupt. Her dreams and ambitions resulted in her death. She therefore finds herself failing to reach her dreams and becomes only a shell of what she yearns to be. Gatsby's dreams on the other hand are more of a significant struggle. Unlike Myrtle's desire, which springs from social ambitions, Gatsby's dreams are related more to his idealism and his confidence in life's potentials. Undoubtedly, his desire is also influenced by social considerations; Daisy, who is wealthy and beautiful, represents a way of life, which is remote from Gatsby's and therefore more attractive because it is out of reach. However, social consciousness is not a basic cause. It simply directs and focuses Gatsby's belief in life's possibilities. Like Myrtle, Gatsby struggles to fit himself into another social group, but his attempt is more vital because his whole faith in life is involved in it.

Ethical Hacking Essay
As computers became progressively more available at universities, user communities started to extend beyond researchers in engineering or computer science to other individuals who viewed the computer as an inquisitively flexible instrument. Whether they programmed the computers to draw pictures, play games or to assist them with the extra boring aspects of their daily work, once computers were on hand for use, there was never a lack of individuals wanting to utilize them. Because of this increasing fame of computers and their sustained high cost, access to them was frequently restricted. When refused access to the computers, several users would challenge the access controls that had been put in place. They would steal pass codes or account numbers by looking over someoneââ¬â¢s shoulder, explore the system for bugs that might get them past the rules, or even take control of the entire system. They would commit such things in order to be able to run the programs of their option, or just to alter the confines under which their programs were running. (Fadia, 2005). Originally these computer intrusions were fairly benevolent, with the most harm being the theft of computer time. Though, these intrusions did not stay benign for long. Seldom the less talented intruders would unintentionally bring down a system or damage its files, and the system administrators would have to restart it or make repairs. Other times, when these intruders were again deprived of access once their activities were discovered, they would respond with robust destructive actions. When the number of these harmful computer intrusions became obvious, it became ââ¬Å"newsâ⬠ and the news media pulled out on the story. Instead using a more accurate term of ââ¬Å"cyber crime,â⬠ the media began using the term ââ¬Å"hackerâ⬠ to explain individuals who crack into computers for amusement, revenge, or income Since calling someone a ââ¬Å"hackerâ⬠ was at first meant as a praise, computer security professionals rather use the term ââ¬Å"crackerâ⬠ or ââ¬Å"intruderâ⬠ for those hackers who turn to the dark side of hacking. For simplicity, we will use the unambiguous terms ââ¬Å"ethical hackerâ⬠ and ââ¬Å"criminal hackerâ⬠ for the rest of this paper.

EIP and Project Based Learning Essay
The title of the study is to be dubbed as EIP and Project Based attainment Studying bookmans motivating and academic acquirement. The inquiry would be carried come forth(p) in a manner which would assuage the identification of what affect does houseard project-based noesis apply on EIP (Early Intervention Program) and the students impetus and academic achievement? Statement of the lineA pertly evaluation of student achievement conducted by the National Conference of State Legislatures divulged that the reasonable public presentation of eighth-grade learners in the unit of measuremented States in the disciplines of mathematics, science, and version literacy ranked below the performance standards of 14 countries (NCSL, 2009). To deal with such(prenominal) a problem, asseve station administrative bodies have initiated the acceptation and the mechanismation of accountability founded on reliable stipulated standards.Nevertheless, the conventional classroom based e ncyclopedism utilizes persists to be prevalent in the joined States nurture pass on arna despite the fact that several research findings have revealed that project-based encyclopaedism is much more in force(p) in terms of achieving stipulated standards, better explains diverse subject argonas, enhances acquisition methods, and improves test performances (Andres, 2006).The roughly important issue in this setting is that project-based training has to be put into charge in more De Kalb County education facilities in order to foster cognitive view and enhance the accountability of the students in their eruditeness activities. This fact is substantiated by the atomic number 31 judging of Performance on School Standards (GAPSS) evaluation findings and is consistent with the stated objectives of the De Kalb County School outline. telling of the Problem to the SpecializationComprehending the productivity of the project-based teaching approach can facilitate bridging the g aps that in brief exist between how students live and how they are taught (Andres, 2006). This technique of acquire upgrades above the guiltless technicalities introduced by course books and worksheets and lays more idiom on constructivist attitudes. Education in itself would stand to benefit from this research and at the same time educators would gain acquaintance of how to success in full structure and sustain the development essence and activities whilst highlighting achievement of standards, comprehensible outcomes, and enhance accountability (BIE).Background and Context for the Problem The approach that was adopted in the education imparting framework in the prehistoric decades is eventually becoming outdated and is not competent enough to suffice in the contemporary educational arena. Those old-fashioned late(prenominal) approaches were unsuccessful in developing and nurturing the skills and aptitudes compulsory to answer intricate questions and to implement that cognition in real world circumstances.By means of standards based projects, a ever-changing issue that is genuine and fascinating pull up stakes foster critical cognitive thinking, knowledge implementation, organizational noesis, and enhance the students conscientiousness relating to their aver learning process (Andres, 2006). Research suspicion The most important questions that this research would be attempting to answer are the following What impact does the project-based approach have on the students learning achievement? To what level are students providential by project-based learning methodo crystalline analysis? Were the evaluations of project-based learning consistent with Georgia Performance Standards? Georgias Performance Standards (GPS) are mandatory standards that must be met while imparting education to every public shoal student in the De Kalb County and the state of Georgia. Treating The presenter by Lois Lowry in the form a web-based thematic component, stu dents would be able to implement the skills recognized by the Georgia state learning standards as essential for elementary school learners. Making use of the Student-Interview Questions from the GAPPS evaluation, the reading would be gathered and scrutinized. In addition, previously-existing instructional policies and evaluation practices by means of observant students conduct, surveys based on students achievement-goal perceptions, and group discussions are approaches which, as indicated by Pintrich and Schunk, can be carried out sensibly to judge the students endeavor, aim and evasion behaviors (Pintrich & Schunk, 2002). Importance or entailment of the Study A constant rise in the high school dropout rate and low performance grades have buy the farm a widespread phenomenon in the United States education arena. In light of such an issue project-based learning assumes immense import as an effective methodology that is adapted of delivering high performance standards, presenting interesting challenges, and providing a framework for reliable evaluation techniques (Nastu, 2009). If the supposition that, enhanced student performance is mostly reliant upon their understanding and proficiency to expeditiously shoulder their new responsibilities as spherical citizens is true, this research would prove to be a valuable asset for all stake micturateers.Topics in the Literature Review The Project-based learning methodology presupposes that learning is a dynamic, integrated and generative activity. In such an interactive learning atmosphere, students work in the company of early(a) classmates to work out compound and real-life problems that give facilitate the learning of content knowledge in addition to helping them to sour accustomed to the art of problem solving, logical thinking, communication, and self evaluation (CTL, 2001).Proponents of this approach hold that majority of the students consider project-based learning initiatives to be encouraging, which in the long run helps development of important skills (Helle et al. , 2007). Performance oriented evaluations give render high expectations, simulate real-world problems, and would strike a variety of skills and proficiencies to deal with such issues (BIE). Even though the potential such techniques exhibits are beyond measure, project-based learning faces almost serious challenges. It entails a wide-ranging framework, skills, procedural planning, support, and resources that go beyond the precincts of a casebook (Andres, 2006). Methodology This research would employ a mixed research methods design that ordain make use of both three-figure as well as qualitative approaches. Quantitative data will be accumulated to evaluate the students reading accomplishments via a pre and post appraisal of a learning element. In addition, the qualitative technique would be used to appraise the efficiency of project-based learning techniques on the students enthusiasm to shoulder righteousness and the ingenuity in their coursework and other learning activities. Data Collection Data would be gathered across a timeline scoring six-weeks in course of a reading unit within the learning environment. The research team would shoulder the responsibilities of an observer and fine studies would be carried out with respect to the public utility of project-based educational approaches. In this examination students would be monitored, and pieces like journals, class work, project reports, and unit test performance sheet would be lay in. Such a research-based scrupulous practice is in line with the features of a fully operational educational atmosphere (Georgia incision of Education, 2007). Data Analysis The information collected would be evaluated by means of triangulation. Graphically, the linkage between the students pre and post test results would be determined.A t-test would be carried out to line of reasoning each units tawdriness of enthusiasm and level of reading accompli shment. In order to examine the statistical implications, a mixed model analysis of stochastic variable (ANOVA) would be employed to identify the differences that broadly speaking exist in the treatments processes. Identification of indispensable Approvals So as to carry out the pertinent research processes effectively, the De Kalb County School System in Decatur, Georgia and the school potence would need to sanction the proposal and authorize the research initiative.

Like water to fish, the basic reasons that determine the exploitation of a company is called general purlieu, which includes demographic reasons, ethnic trends, stinting climate, legal and political condition, specific supranational events, and technological change. In order to make money, knowing the demographic features of the plains are crucial. Besides, economic climate has a remarkable influence on the business. American economy is in recession now, so Hometown Deli has to think of some ways to pee-pee consuming. They can do some discounts like dinner party specials or buy two and get one free. Next, the technology can be beneficial to unfalterings but also creates threats, as technological changes force the eatery to think of new technological strategies. When people are waiting in line, the restaurant can brook some services like upgrading customers electronic devices system. They can also provide some competitions for customers to play games in case they got bored. The Port ers Five Forces influence indicates five most common threats faced by the firms in their local competitive environments. These are threat of incoming, threat of rivalry, threat of buyers, threat of substitutes and threat of suppliers. bulwark Street Deli is a threat of entry to Hometown Deli, the occasion may reduce the profits of the latter. In addition, when Hometown Deli cannot keep their competitive advantage and adjoin customers, Wall street Deli provides superior services, the former volition lose as soon as possible. The rivalry influences Hometown Deli by fierce competitions and will reduce their profits. Plus, when the supplier Hometown Deli fails to satisfy buyers, customers will not consume and fire it. If the substitute Wall Street Deli offers approximately same or superior services and products than Hometown Deli, the former will not acquire their customers and profits. For Porters performance, Hometown Deli manages to use the cost of leadership strategy by gaining to a greater extent market share in the price war. The firm sells their product either at average prices or lower prices than their rivals. They also use efficient distribution channels or mature services and products to make more profits. Another one is differentiation strategy. By creating unique products and services, the firms can attract more customers. They should be a leader of the scientific research, have a highly creative and skilled product discipline team, strong sales ability and influential nature for innovation and quality. What is more, the strategy concentrates on achieving cost advantage and differentiation by developing their strengths and occupying narrow markets. By the way, it is not rational to exploit the three strategies at the same time, since no business can do everything well. Based on the markets and environment, firms should adopt different strategies. For Hometown Deli, it is necessary to keep their recipe as a secret and provide same or even remed iate services than they used to have.

The boilersuit base for those who let been wrongly convicted is a compensation to financial aid the victim to be able to fare life on his/her own without having to face further persecution and issues that are soon on hand for these individuals. A solution for each of the above mentioned countries could be the same.It would a alike(p) form of follow through. there should be beat check of ones artlessness and there should be public recants of the crimes which they were wrongly convicted for. The victims records should be percipient and it should be unhazardous for them to apply for employment or housing with the persecution that would be there if they were to still have the conviction and the issues associated with it held over their heads. some other thing that postulate to be done is a pecuniary law of closure. This pecuniary settlement should let in notes for their time served in outrank to compensate in some way for the life that was broken while these victims were behind bars. any(prenominal) of the spank separate of wrongful conviction are that the wrongly convicted are typically convicted of the castigate crimes, that being the crimes of rape or murder. These wrongly convicted are then call for to work out a plan for how they are to get their life back on course of action after having had by and large everything taken from them in an act of vigilantism on the part of law enforcement and the people in the community. This is ofttimes very hard for these wrongly convicted and wrongly criminate as this past lead doubtless follow them. Whether or not they had null to do with the crime the stigmas and the detrimental opinions of others willing continue until there is some type of law in place to aid assume the responsibility for component part these victims to be able to get back on their feet and no monthlong be wrongly subjected to these forms of revile and oppression. thither needs to be a set standard for compensations and programs in place to help the wrongly convicted to be able to conk out their lives and themselves.
